Every night in Toronto 185 women and their 238 children sleep in shelters because it isn’t safe to sleep at home.
Construction is well underway on our NEW 24,000 square foot anti-violence centre and shelter!
This winter, we will open with 17 bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom, and we will be able to provide refuge to 30 to 40 women and children – and their pets – every night.
We’ve already secured funding to pay for hard construction costs; things like excavation, concrete, walls, mechanical systems, walls, floors and the roof – we are counting on community donations, like yours, to create a home.
Your tax-receiptable donation will be used to help finish, furnish and outfit one of our new, family bedrooms! Your generosity will provide comfortable, safe beds to the women, like Sara and their children who come to us for help.
‘I came to North York Women’s Shelter after my husband broke my jaw and nose. At the time, I had no job, no money, and no family to support me. My children were ages three, two, and eight-months and I had no idea how I was going to support them on my own. I was so scared and felt so alone.
The counsellors at the shelter welcomed me with open arms and provided me with everything we needed to feel comfortable. It was the first time in my adult life that I felt safe!’ – Sara
